Why did you opt for a destination wedding? We decided on a destination wedding over a traditional wedding primarily because of the simplicity.
Why the Cook Islands? I heard of the Cook Islands from the television show Getaway, and it was also on our travel agent's website. I found out after the wedding that one of the hosts, Catriona Rowntree, recently honeymooned at the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa too!
What was the reaction like from yourfamily and friends? We have been engaged for two years, so it was kind of expected ... but they were still a little surprised!
How long did it take to plan? Our travel agent organised the trip itself and the wedding coordinator at Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa looked after all the details of the wedding for us.
How many guests attended? None, we eloped!
Was there anything that didn't quite go to plan? The rings were left back in our room! Our photographer said later that this slight delay actually worked out for the best, as it gave him time to move us around slightly for better looking photos.
The best part of a destination wedding? The location!!! Going somewhere we had never been before was, to be honest, a little daunting at first, but when we arrived, it was just magic! We had only stayed in Aitutaki for one night before we got married, so on our wedding day, the beauty of the place still blew us away.
Any advice for couples planning a similar wedding? Keep it simple. Be organised. Don't stress. Having our own personal wedding planners at the resort was just wonderful, they were on-hand to organise all the details of our special day.
What is your most special/memorable moment of the day? The ceremony, and us saying our vows to each other in the most amazing location. We're looking forward to our next holiday in the Cook Islands, this time, we plan to stay a lot longer!
