The Philippines is home to beautiful beaches ,and seascapes, natural wonders of forests and thousand-year-old rice terraces, the famous 'Chocolate Hills', historic towns and buildings dating from the Spanish occupation, and excitement enough for the most intrepid traveller.
Manila is hot and hectic and seems to be a city in a hurry - with a population in excess of 15 million it's busy and the traffic is horrendous, but eventually you arrive where you're going safely as the cars jostle and slide from lane to lane. The old city, known as Intramuros, has been reconstructed and offers visitors a picture of the buildings and fortifications constructed during the Spanish period.
Cebu was the first place to be settled by the Spanish and is known as the "Queen City of the South". History is fine, but beaches are better - and when you can have both, along with a vibrant city culture, great shopping and fabulous nightlife you have all the ingredients for a great holiday. Cebu is about an hour's flight from Manila.
Boracay - sugary white sand so fine that it never gets hot, water so clear, so transparent and so refreshing that swimming off White Beach is like the warm embrace of a lover. Palm trees lean protectively over the sand so that from the ocean the beach is fringed with green and at night, candles glow in elaborately constructed sandcastles, while locals and tourists alike lounge back on the beach with a drink to take in the starlight. So laid-back that time seems to slow down, Boracay is perfect for a holiday, a honeymoon - for any reason you can think of.
Palawan is home to a host of natural wonders - forests and caves, an underground river, and sublime beaches and diving sites. Probably the least developed of holiday destinations in the Philippines, it boasts a pristine perfection which is attracting more and more tourists. The World Heritage-listed Puerto Princessa Subterranean National Park is home to impressive cave systems, old growth tropical rainforest and the 8.2 kilometre long underground river.
