The BarossaThe Barossa
It is no secret that the Barossa is famous for wine, and no trip would be complete without a tasting session at one or more of the 60 alluring cellar doors. We take it for granted that where there’s fine wine, there’s fine food. In the Barossa, our produce is not simply grown or made – it’s part of the distinctive history of the region. You’ll find markets, providores, cellar doors, restaurants and cafes. And at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, where this famous cook and writer gives tastings, you can purchase her enticing range of products and seasonal goods – only available here.
Rows of vineyards connect rolling hills, interspersed with charming villages and hamlets, and the countryside changes shape and mood throughout the seasons. In winter, the Barossa Ranges are covered with lush green growth and romantic morning mists – perfect for roaring woodfires at cellar doors, restaurants and B&Bs.
It’s a legacy of the English immigrants and Lutheran pioneers who settled here and whose families still proudly live and work in the towns and country. And having some of this history to yourself is easy: many of the settlers cottages and buildings have been beautifully restored to provide self-contained or bed and breakfast accommodation. There are also stylish resorts and up-market hotels, luxury homesteads and hospitable motels, caravan parks and backpacker accommodation.
