Limestone Coast

Like many of its sensational wines, the Limestone Coast is a perfect blend: brilliant white beaches, rolling lush pastures, charming seaside towns and acres of pristine vineyards.

Coonawarra is the most famous of its four wine regions, and touring each is as rewarding as the wine itself. The rich and varied local produce of the region (especially renowned for its seafood) is found in contemporary cafes and romantic restaurants in wine country and by the sea. No surprise that Southern Rock Lobster season (October to April) is a favourite time for visitors.

Stroll along secluded beaches and through the charming seaside ports of Robe, Beachport, Kingston and Port MacDonnell. Penola’s history comes to the fore in its historic streets, buildings and museums.

Settle into an intimate cottage by the sea, an indulgent country house, a contemporary beach house or apartment – or camp under a million stars. The Limestone Coast is half-way between Melbourne and Adelaide, whether you drive inland or by the Great Ocean Road. There are direct flights from both cities that can have you in the region in under an hour.
