In Sydney, it's more a question of how much time you have to explore rather than what to explore - there's history in the Rocks and around the old Government House, the Botanic Gardens must be sited on the world's most expensive real estate with divine views of the harbour, the beaches are world class, as is the zoo (again, the real estate!), the museums and art galleries, the gorgeous terrace houses and boutiques of Paddington, the fashion on Oxford Street, and the fabulous eateries and restaurants for which Sydney is famous. There's so much to see and do you'll be coming back for multiple short breaks!
Outside of Sydney the Blue Mountains and the Hawkesbury River are easy day trips - but our guess is that there is so much to see in and around Sydney, that you won't have time to go anywhere else. (Images Tourism New South Wales)

Towns & Surrounds: Cross the harbour and explore the North Shore of Sydney, or take a day trip to the Royal National Park just south of the city. Hit the harbour on a cruise that will show you just how big and beautiful it is, visit Elizabeth Farm at Rosehill, the oldest surviving homestead in Australia.
Good Idea: Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay and watch the sunset from the famous pub.
Couples will love: Kiribilli Markets on Saturday morning - held on the fourth Sunday of the month, this is one of the oldest established markets in Sydney; the Kiribilli Art & Design market is held on the second sunday of the month. Kiribilli is accessible by ferry from Circular Quay.
