More on Santhiya Resort & Spa - Roderick Cotty & Elizabeth Cotty

Why did you opt for a destination wedding? We fell in love with Thailand three years ago and as our families live at opposite ends of the world- New Zealand and England, it seemed a perfect middle mark!

Why Koh Phangan? We have been on holiday there twice and absolutely love Thong Nai Pan Noi beach. When we saw Santhiya Resort three years ago, we thought it would make the most perfect wedding venue- we were proved right!

What was the reaction from your family and friends? We had always talked about having a wedding overseas, so they weren't too shocked. We were overwhelmed by how many people wanted to come and share our wedding with us!

How many guests attended? We had a total of 38 people, which was a lovely size and made it very intimate celebration with people that we really love.

Is there anything you would have done differently? We wish we had booked longer to stay at Santhiya after the wedding, to relax and enjoy the resort! Otherwise, nothing, it was perfect!

What is the best part of a destination wedding? We loved being able to have a small, personal wedding with close friends in a very, very special location. It made the wedding very different and memorable for everyone. Having a destination wedding also reduces the amount of planning and stress as the resort will provide most elements i.e cake, flowers, food, photos.

Do you have any advice for couples planning a similar wedding? Arrive at the resort at least 2 days in advance, to sort out all the arrangements, positioning and to check last minute details to reduce your stress levels! Also, find out early on who the best person to coordinate with is, preferably the person who will be with you at the resort. This ensures consistency and a smooth transition from early planning to arrival at the resort.

What is your most memorable moment of the day? Mine was arriving at the beach in our golf cart and walking down the aisle. Rod says that seeing me for the first time was his most memorable moment of the day. The glorious sunset during drinks was also a spectacular moment! The staff at Santhiya were fantastic, especially Jenny Jones who acted as a wedding coordinator once we arrived. They went out of their way for Rod and I, and all of the guests.
