Vanuatu is an archipelago, a Y-shaped string of 83 islands with the main islands being Efate, Espiritu Santo, Malekula and Tanna.
Vanuatu is a land of diversity and huge smiles, boasting Coral seas, tropical islands fish, volcanoes and rainforest. Snorkelling, SCUBA diving, game fishing and soft adventures are all here to enjoy in a country with a colorful history, a rich culture and a warm welcome. Every island has its own history and unique traditions, so visiting several will add to your Vanuatu Experience.
Frangipani trees in bloom usher the softest of scents as antique lorries loaded with Hessian bags of semi dried coconuts rumble past releasing the a scent of coconut oil so strong that if you step out of the car you would swear that there must be coconut oil rain falling. As the coconut sits in the air with the humidity, as faint as it is, the frangipani remains. You know you are somewhere unique, you can see it, year it in the hellos and smiles of the local children and even smell its perfume in the air.
The ni-Vanuatu people (of the land) are a Melanesian race speaking Bislama, a unique language mixed with versions of local, French and English languages. Bislama unites the country providing people of 110 different language groups the opportunity to communicate. English and French are widely spoken and an integral part of not only the history of Vanuatu, but also the present.
