Real Life Honeymoons

Jess & Ben Jones - from Australia

Length of Honeymoon: 1 Week
Total Cost: $2,000
Accommodation & Destination:
The Lakes Cairns Resort & Spa, Cairns, Australia
The Cairns Coast lineScuba Diving On the way to Kuranda stopped at a Gorge

My husband and I really wanted to see Cairns so we ended up doing a few day tours through 'Reef N Hinterland'. One of the days, we were taken up to Kuranda Markets which is a must see in Cairns. We went up on a train which takes you up the mountain to Kuranda where you see waterfalls. On another day we went out to Green Island and snorkeled. We were really keen to go Scuba Diving so we organised it at the last minute to go out to the Outer Reef and Scuba Dive which ended up being the best day of the trip. On one of our free days we hired bicycles and rode to the City from where our hotel was and walked around the City that day. We also went to a large lake with a tour guide looking for crocodiles.

About their honeymoon

Why did you choose this destination?
Neither of us had been to Cairns before and also we didn't want to spend a lot of money.

Why did you choose this accommodation?
It had a great website. It attracted me due to the pools and reasonable price.

What was your 'Honeymoon Highlight'?
Best day was when we went out on a boat called "The Big Cat". There was a buffet lunch, crew was really friendly and helpful, the day was planned perfectly. You could snorkel and scuba dive and they also taught you how to scuba dive so you didn't need experience.

Would you recommend this destination to other couples?
Yes
Why?
Definitely. We went around April which is a perfect time of year to go. The weather was absolutely perfect and so was the water when we went swimming.

Would you recommend this accommodation to other couples?
Yes
Why?
The accommodation was good. But I felt for a honeymoon venue there were a little bit too many children around. I would have liked a place a little bit more secluded for newlyweds but other wise good.

Other Comments:

Reef N Hinterland are a great group to speak to if you enjoy day trips without having to worry about hiring a vehicle. Very friendly and knew a lot about Cairns.
