Belinda & David Redmond - from Melbourne, Australia
Total Cost: $9000
The Riverside Hotel, Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland
Glenlo Abbey, Galway City, County Galway, Ireland
Ballygally Castle, Ballygally, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, Ireland
We decided we wanted to see as much of Ireland as we could, so we hired a car and drove around the island of Ireland, including Northern Ireland. We visited many of the 'must see' sites, with our favourites including Glendalough, Waterford Crystal Factory, Blarney Castle, the Cliffs of Moher, Newgrange, the Giant's Causeway, the Carrick-a-rede Bridge and Trim Castle. It was fantastic to see so much heritage. We were also lucky to visit David's family who live in Ireland, and were more than happy to give us a taste of Irish culture.
About their honeymoon
Why did you choose this destination?
It was a life-long dream for both David and I to travel around Ireland. David was born in Ireland and had not been back to visit since he was a child. He was keen to get to know his extended family and learn more about his heritage.
Why did you choose this accommodation?
We spent many hours on the internet researching the tourist attractions and heritage sites that we wanted to visit. From here we then looked for the nearest accommodation. Being our honeymoon we didn't settle for anything less than 4 or 5 star, but was still able to get bargains by booking in advance.
What was your 'Honeymoon Highlight'?
One of the most thrilling moments was kissing the Blarney stone. It's not for the faint hearted, especially if you are afraid of heights. However we were overwhelmed by seeing the Book of Kells in Trinity College in Dublin, which is from the 6th century. Glendalogh is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been to. Wondering the park and exploring the ancient ruins was awe-inspiring and very romantic.
Would you recommend this destination to other couples?
Yes
Why?
I would definitely recommend Ireland to anyone who loves green pastures, friendly people, amazing heritage, and a good craic! If anyone would like to know more about what we did and saw, they can visit http://www.mytouristpics.com.
Would you recommend this accommodation to other couples?
Yes
Why?
We would recommend all our accommodation choices, as each offered something unique. Some were more modern, whilst others were in ancient castles. Ballygally Castle even had its own resident ghost! We were always welcomed by the friendly locals.
Other Comments:
We decided to pre-book our accommodation before leaving Australia and this made the trip hassle free. However give them a call before you leave to confirm your booking. We hired a car and did our own tour around this great country, but make sure you do your research about where the tourist attractions are as the signage is poor.
