Short Break Tips

> > by Holidays for Couples

Here’s a few tips to help you make the most of your time away.
DO ...
1. Turn off your mobile phones.
2. Texting at the table or taking non-emergency calls won’t fan the fl ames of romance, guaranteed.
3. Be creative.
4. Dining out is a treat but you don’t have to spend up big at a restaurant for every meal. Why not BYO Champagne and order room service, shop locally and enjoy a picnic, or fi ll up a thermos, head to the beach and watch the sunrise.
5. Share chores.
6. Even in paradise you may still have to wash up a few dishes. Now more than ever these ‘menial’ tasks should be shared.
7. Be considerate.
8. Play nice! Organise breakfast in bed, make an effort and dress up for dinner, offer a massage, or perhaps just turn off the television.

DON’T ...
1. Obsess about the preparation.
2. Planning a break, even a mini one, can be stressful so leave all this behind you when you arrive at your destination. Someone left the beach towels at home? Who cares, it gives you a good excuse to explore the local shops.
3. Don’t nag each other about the small stuff ... not worth it!
4. Go on about money.
5. Come to an agreement on a daily/weekly/total budget before the holiday so money doesn’t become a sticking point while you’re away.
6. Over-schedule.
7. Focus on your relationship not a schedule.
8. Rather than rushing through a ‘must-do’ list why not plan a couple of things but leave lots of time for just hanging out, having a leisurely breakfast, going for a swim, or simply sleeping in.
9. Invite friends to join you. Even if you usually enjoy holidaying with other couples, when planning a ‘romantic escape’ keep it intimate.
10. Expect perfection.
11. Being on holiday is fun but if you expect to live in a constant state of dreamy elation you might be disappointed. You’re still the same people you were at home, just hopefully a little more relaxed. Pack a sense of humour and go with the flow.
