Asia's top ten beaches - Surin Beach, Phuket

> > by Craig Tansley

Located just 25 minutes north of Phuket’s Patong Beach, Surin Beach is Patong’s mirror opposite. Surin Beach is where the rich and famous come to stay, it even earns the nickname Millionaire’s Row, mostly because it’s where Asia’s celebs come to stay at top-end haunts like Amanpuri and The Chedi.
But that’s not to say it’s pretentious, or its costs are prohibitive. On the contrary, Surin Beach looks like a classic Thai coastal village, set amongst one of the nicest beaches in Thailand with its fine white sands, perfect clear water and casuarina-lined beachfront. It also has some of the best seafood you’ll find anywhere in Asia, you can eat at either hawker stalls or at some of the most sophisticated restaurants in Phuket, like Catch or Silk. There’s plenty to do on the beach, with everything from kayaking, volleyball, snorkelling and even surfing in the low season (May to October).

Getting There:
Thai Airways flies 45 times a week from Australia with onward connections to Phuket.

Perfect for the couple who:
Like to indulge – while there’s enough small village beach ambience to make for the perfect coastal retreat, there’s nothing like feeling pampered. Book a room at one of Surin Beach’s five-star accommodation masterpieces, then spend your days being massaged and fed and relaxing on the silica sands.
